Emergency Notification and Communications

The Haines Borough uses several mechanisms to notify residents of pending or active emergency events;

1. Nixle - The Haines Borough Police Department has partnered with Nixle to implement its Community Notification System to alert residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories. This service is free to the public (text messaging rates may apply from your cell service provider).

As a Haines resident, there are several simple ways to register:

      a. Text 99827 (your zipcode) to 888777 from your mobile phone

      b. Go to the Haines Borough PD Nixle Page and select SIGN UP- http://local.nixle.com/haines-borough-police-department/

      c. Sign Up with a new account or using your Facebook account login at- https://local.nixle.com/register/

Once registered, residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device or email. Residents may also customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and customizing their User Profile.

2. Facebook - After initial warning messages and updates are released via NIXLE, additional messaging may also be released on the Borough's Facebook account.

3. Outdoor Warning Sirens - There is an Outdoor Warning Siren placed at the Haines Borough Public Safety Building. This siren is tested daily at 12 pm.

The Haines Borough recently received a $61,000 grant from NOAA for a new emergency siren...more to come.
